Going to the Hospital
No one anticipates having to the go the hospital. We know that sometimes the abuse or crime you have experienced might require you to see a nurse or doctor. Our advocates can meet you at the hospital to support you. We can also walk you through all your options and what next steps might be helpful.
There are different types of medical options. If you have recently experienced sexual abuse (in the past 5 days) or have visible physical injury, you may want to go to the emergency room for a forensic medical exam. These exams are provided by specially trained nurses called Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE). These exams are paid for by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute through Violent Crime Compensation Fund. When someone needs an immediate exam in our community, they are usually treated at St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis. To speak with a SANE, contact the Center of Hope Nurse’s Line at 317-338-1956.
Your primary care doctor can also help link you to a trained and specialized provider.
