Dear Valued Community Partner,
We are pleased to present to you Prevail’s 2016 “Go Purple” Campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We encourage you look through the entirety of the packet and take advantage of the resources that we are providing you as we partner together to stand against domestic violence during the entire month of October.
October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month every year by Congress since 1989. This is an important time for the community to reflect on these devastating injustices. Nearly 1 in 4 women are victims of domestic violence and an average of 3 women are killed every day nationwide by a current or former partner as a result of domestic violence.
Domestic violence is a complex issue and affects everyone, so we should all play a role in trying to be a part of the solution. While crisis intervention is an important immediate response to domestic violence, there is a great need to raise awareness and develop effective prevention strategies.
Last year out of the 2,721 clients served at Prevail, 50% of clients served were adults, adolescents, and children who were victims of family violence. Domestic violence occurs in our community, so we are pleased to have the opportunity to share with you this opportunity to recognize domestic violence awareness month and to join you in collaboration to raise awareness during October. We are very grateful for your support and look forward to this annual opportunity to engage the public in the fight against domestic violence.
